Robert Frost famously said, "Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in." We're glad Trifecta has come to feel like home to so many of you and you are all always welcome under this roof.
Mark Windham knocks it out of the park with his bleak, contemplative piece about a different view of home.
Home was a lost hope,Whimsygizmo takes us on another ride on her lovely lilt-o-wheel with a piece that dance on your tongue and leaves you satisfied and slightly dizzy. New to the party, Annette Mickelson shows us a lush, lifelong love in beautiful little slices.
an overheard conversation
on some downtown corner.
It was an impossible idea,
perhaps a lingering memory,
but not a thing, not real.
There was ‘the’ home,
where lost children were fed
foul food and forgotten,
another mouth on a roster
for an overburdened
social worker.
There was the alley claimed
as their own, thinking numbers
and bolt holes equaled safety.
Cardboard beds tucked under
dumpster lids with dirty bodies
huddled together for warmth.
Home was a misnomer,
a cold dream broken by
screaming sirens and rain,
a couple walking by holding
hands, a commercial seen
through a storefront window.
Congrats to all our winners and to all those who participated. You made reading a pleasure this week. And now, on to the weekend prompt.
Last month we asked you to give us a killer opening line in exactly 33 words. This week we're asking for an equally amazing closing line. It can be the ending to the story you began in the previous challenge or a completely different ending altogether. Just make sure it's exactly 33 words.
Good luck and we'll meet you back here on Monday. Happy weekend!

ReplyDeleteI feel like a proud momma. :) Congratulations to all, especially my best poetry pals. I had a feeling you'd be up there this week.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the award. I'm really enjoying your prompts. I plan to stick around...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this. I hope the ending is as fascinating as the opening was.
ReplyDeleteLoveLoveLOVED Mark's piece. Heading over to read Annette's now. Thank you so much for the honor of placing this week. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm confused. When you say closing line, is it a 33 word final sentence which is how I took it or can it be broken up and it's a 33 word closing?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
You can structure your closing any way you'd like. More than one sentence is fine. Just make sure it's exactly 33 words. Good luck and thanks for writing!
DeleteOh dear. Monday morning and Mr Linky is closed. Having had a busy weekend, I didn't get to post mine before, but it is here anyway! http://vivinfrance.wordpress.com/2012/08/20/33-word-ending-for-trifecta/
