Trifecta: Week Fifty-Nine

We thought this weekend's prompt might be more challenging than previous ones.  By the volume and quality of the entries, we can see we'll have to try harder to challenge you all.  It was another difficult night of judging, but we think you'll agree that our winners circle is stellar.

First place goes to newcomer mollymawkattack for her piece, Approach.  Clean lines and well-chosen words frame a moment and leave us wanting more.
The spectral analysis was complete.
Anxiously a pair of eyes opened and peered through the darkness of the cockpit at the readout.
Slowly, unbelieving, the pilot reached for the intercomm.
“We’re home”.
In second, Suzanne impressed us with visions of a fiery goddess rising from the depths of the earth in her piece, Pele.  Taking third, long-time Trifectan The Hobbler showed us just how dangerous it can be to judge a book by its cover in Crust, Mantle, Core.

Congrats to our winners.  Be sure to give them a read if you haven't already.  The weekly prompt comes from a place many of us associate with the beginning of a new year.  Do you make resolutions or think it's all just hogwash?  Did you make any this year?

Good luck!

INTENTION (noun)

1: a determination to act in a certain way : resolve
2: import, significance
3a : what one intends to do or bring about
b : the object for which a prayer, mass, or pious act is offered

Please remember:
  • Your response must be between 33 and 333 words.
  • You must use the 3rd definition of the given word in your post.
  • The word itself needs to be included in your response.
  • You may not use a variation of the word; it needs to be exactly as stated above.
  • Only one entry per writer.
  • Trifecta is open to everyone!!  Please join us.

  1. Such lovely winners! I really did like this prompt, and the winners as well as everyone else's entries shows why! <3 Plus, a lot of them made me hungry. Mmmm pie...

The prompt seems a little easier this time around :D A word which has a third definition that's actually commonly used. (Not that I don't love a challenge...! Bring it! >:D)

  10. Wow, I won? That's amazing, thank you so much! And such interesting interpretations from everyone, too.

Oh, and I'm male, by the way. Sorry if my blog's title is a little misleading! Time to do the "meet your fellow Trifectans" meme, I guess.

  12. Congratulations to the three top entrants; all were worthy of recognition for their excellent work. Congrats, as always, to everyone else who took pen to paper or, fingers to keyboards, as it were, and created. It was a pleasure to have sooooooo much reading to do! 19. Why did we jump 10 weeks, from week 48 to 59?

    1. Because we run two separate challenges. Trifecta is what we call the site and our weekly challenge. Trifextras are the short challenges we run on the weekends.
