Trifecta: Week Eighty-Five

Welcome back, Trifectans!  We hope you've enjoyed this weekend of bearing the weight of the judging power.  We've enjoyed letting you.  Remember, the winners for the weekend challenge will be announced in the comment section of this post and will be given their full due in the post on Friday.

Now we have the winners, chosen by your votes, of the Week 84 crude challenge.  Jo-Anne takes first with Crude.
Damn hot day in paradise so I’m giving the feet a vacation in the park’s green grass. It’s sure a nice change to find somewhere dry to walk or lie down. The heat wave has been a welcome break. Usually, this is a city full of mud. Until I moved here, I’d have never believed a place could endure so much rain.
I come to the park to get out of my room. Don’t get me wrong, my room doesn’t have cockroaches or mice or anything. But one room gets real uncomfortable when you spend the entire day inside it. Of course, I get out during the week when I’m at work. But the weekends, my days of rest (geez, I almost split my side laughing at that one) I spend in the park. I know quite a few people who hang out here. Sometimes there’s even a barbecue set up by a local business. They serve hotdogs. It’s always the same: hotdogs. I’m not complaining though. Those things can be pretty tasty, especially when they’re free.
I work over at the Mac’s Milk store on Broadway at Sixth. It’s a long commute but I do pretty well there. My wages? Oh, not inside. I said ‘at’ the store. That’s my corner.
What’s it like? Mostly degrading. Going in, customers’ sallow faces avoid me. They look up or to the west (always west), basically anywhere but at me. Leaving, those same faces, full of chips, gum, cigarettes, whatever, hurry back out of the store, pretending they’ve got somewhere important to go. Where? Anywhere but here, I suppose.
That damn glass door packs a wallop. Sometimes they push it at me on purpose. I never flinch though. I stand, with my rigor mortis smile, hat in hand, head at the crude beggar’s tilt. Truth be told, sometimes I let the door hit me, on purpose. Guilt adds a few quarters to my hat. I do what I have to. You would too.
We have a tie for second.  Mommy Dourest with Playing Dirty and Tara from Thin Spiral Notebook with Uncultivated Simplicity.  For third this week, we have a three way tie, our favorite kind.  Anja from Oh Pithy Me with Origami Monsters, our very own Draug with Don't Be Crude and Steph from People Do Things With Their Lives with Instinct.

Don't forget to check in and leave some comment love for your current Featured Trifectan while you still can.  Another of your peers will have their name up in lights in Friday's post.  The next one could be you.  And please give a big welcome to your guest judges for this week's challenge - Lance from My Blog Can Beat Up Your Blog is heading up the team of Tara from Thin Spiral Notebook and Suzanne from Apoplectic Apostrophes.  Quite an impressive crew.

We turn now to our weekly one-word prompt.  This week we are asking for a 33- to 333-word response using the word:

FLY (intransitive verb)
1a : to move in or pass through the air with wings
b : to move through the air or before the wind or through outer space
c : to float, wave, or soar in the air <flags flying at half-mast>
2a : to take flight : flee
b : to fade and disappear : vanish
3a : to move, pass, or spread quickly <rumors were flying>

Please note that the above examples of the third definition use various tenses of the verb.  For Trifecta, remember, you must not change the tense.  We need fly, not flying or flew.

Remember:
  • Your response must be between 33 and 333 words.
  • You must use the 3rd definition of the given word in your post.
  • The word itself needs to be included in your response.
  • You may not use a variation of the word; it needs to be exactly as stated above.
  • Only one entry per writer.
  • If your post doesn't meet our requirements, please leave your link in the comments section, not in the linkz.
  • Trifecta is open to everyone. Please join us.
