Trifecta: Week Eighty-Seven

Welcome back, Trifectans!  Judging this weekend was particularly difficult due to the sheer volume of quality posts piled one on top of the other in our linky.  Winnowing our winners down to only three was tortuous work.  But the winners we chose are wonderful and well worth a second look.

Brian from pinionpost is no stranger to the winner's circle.  He knocked us out once again with The Bells, a compelling and darkly ambiguous piece that leaves the interpretation in the hands of the reader.
The old man stands on the lighted stage, stooped and shaking. Others, mere knobby shadows, wait their turn in the darkness behind him.
The bells ring, and the man’s eyes begin to water.
Kir brings home the silver with Concession, an intimate love poem that defines the word bittersweet.  Jenna from Jenna's Attic takes third with Letting Go, a piece that brings back the familiar sting of heartbreak in a flood of senses and emotions.

Congrats, winners!  Thank you for putting your blood on the page week after week.

This week's prompt was suggested to us by Rois who linked up with our Meet Your Fellow Trifectans meme.  If you haven't linked up there yet, please do.

CHARM (verb)

1a : to affect by or as if by magic : compel
b : to please, soothe, or delight by compelling attraction<charms customers with his suave manner>
2: to endow with or as if with supernatural powers by means of charms; also : to protect by or as if by spells, charms, or supernatural influences
3: to control (an animal) typically by charms (as the playing of music) <charm a snake>

  • You must use the 3rd definition of the given word in your post.
  • The word itself needs to be included in your response.

  4. Congratulations to the winners!

I'm honoured that you decided to use my suggestion for this week's challenge. I am more Trifextra participant than Trifecta, but this week I should do my best to take part in this one.

  5. Congrats to the winners! I enjoyed reading your entries.

This prompt is a toughy. I think it would be easy to mistakenly use the first definition (a or b). Way to keep us on our toes, Rois! ;)
